Typically, as I think about the Spring Thaw, I’m considering minor things to my Beetle such as adjusting the carbs, changing the brakes or building a new engine. Yes, that’s right, the minor things. Continue reading

The Spirit of the Thaw Award
At the end of each Spring Thaw, we select a lucky individual, team or group for the “Spirit of the Thaw” award. The award is for someone who best demonstrates who we are, and what we’re about. In 2011 the award was awarded to an individual who hadn’t even entered the event! Continue reading
Sea to Sky Thanksgiving Run 2010
Defying all weather forecasts, a surprise clear and sunny morning greeted 50 cars at Park Royal Monday morning for the second annual Sea to Sky Thanksgiving Run. As the sun crested the horizon to provide a bit of warmth, an eclectic mix of British, German, American and French machinery rumbled down the on-ramp to Taylor Way towards Britannia Beach. It is a heart-warming sight to see a huge gaggle of vintage metal keeling over through turns in unison!
Once again, we were amazed at all the new cars we had never seen before – Vancouver is proving itself to be a hotbed of low-key classic car enthusiasts. The BMW, Datsun, and VW crews were out in force, plus a few minis, a Renault R8 holding down the French side, and a great group of American landyachts and hotrods. Heads turned to watch a Rolls Royce and pre-war Talbot roll into the parking lot at Galileo Coffee too. The spotless Talbot was fresh off a 10-year restoration and Pebble Beach Concours appearance this summer. Personally, I’m impatient after 1-year of restoration on my Mini – I can’t imagine ten years!
Thanks again to everyone who came out and made it another special day behind the wheel. We are excited about the great community of enthusiasts that is getting to know each other! Thanks also to Lance and the staff at Galileo Coffee who we tend to overwhelm every year! We’ll leave you with images from the day. If you have photos you would like to share, please post a link in the discussion forum (you may need to host them on flickr or photobucket first if you don’t have hosting).
[Thanks to your generosity, we will be delivering a full car-load of food and cash for Squamish Helping Hands and Food Bank – thank you!]

June 13th, 2010 – Rag Run
If you’re anything like us, you’ve got a stack of magazines sitting on the shelf awaiting recycling or re-reading. Here at the Classic Car Adventure’s offices, we think it time to give those Automotive magazines new life, and meet other car enthusiasts in the process! Surely other enthusiasts have magazines we wish we had bought, and ours have more reading life left in them. So we thought, “why don’t we try and get our Classic Car friends together and have a magazine swap?!” If you’ve been to any of our events before, you know we think classic cars are best enjoyed while moving…so of course we’ll be hosting a drive as well!
Similar to our Thanksgiving Run, our new “Rag Run” is a free-to-enter event with a short (approximately 45min-1hr) drive along some fantastic twisty roads. While there is no entry fee, we are asking each car to bring at least one-non perishable food item for the Food Bank. We definitely hope you’ll want to be involved in our magazine swap, to do so you simply need to bring three classic car magazines that you wish to swap out for three new (to you) ones. We’re not worried about whether the magazine you bring is one-marque specific, multi-branded, a particular style or even what year the magazine is from. If it’s got reading life left in it, it’s perfect!
Our drive through the valley will have simple to follow directions, in the typical Classic Car Adventures style. We’re heading out onto twisty roads which will take you back to those years before 6-lane highways from point A to point B. We’ve always felt the fun is in getting there, even if we’re doing a loop back to lunch! Speaking of Lunch, the Mission Springs Brewery has brought back their Sunday brunch due to popular demand…and we plan to try as much of the menu as possible! If you haven’t yet been to the Mission Springs Restaurant, you’re in for a treat. Whether it’s the antique gas pumps, the ’46 pickup hanging from the ceiling, or the spark plugs built into your table…there is something to interest every car nut.
When: Sunday June 13th, 2010. Driver’s meeting at 10:00am, Lunch (optional) following our drive.
Where: Meeting at the Mission Springs Restaurant parking lot. 7160 Oliver Street, at Lougheed Highway, Mission BC
What to Bring: At least one non-perishable food item for the food bank. Three classic-car related magazines (of any type).
This event is open to any make, and any model. While our events are certainly geared towards cars made in 1979 and earlier, the most important part is that you’re a classic car enthusiast!
Thanksgiving Run Video & Photos
Silas (black VW Beetle) posted up some great photos in the forum from last weekend’s Thanksgiving Sea to Sky Classic Car Run, plus he edited them into a short video that really shows the atmosphere and fun we had! Thanks Silas!
Sea to Sky Run – Thanks for coming!
WOW! We were not expecting that sort of turnout to the first Sea to Sky Classic Car Run! Thank you for coming! After meeting at Park Royal Shopping Centre at 9am, upwards of 50 cars cruised to Britannia Beach, and Galileo Coffee’s parking lot was almost over-run! I think the brave souls who drove roadsters with the top down this morning were the first to make the dash inside for hot coffee – the air temperature certainly had a winter’s bite. After an hour of chatting with friends new and old, and drooling over the wide variety of cars, everyone went their seperate ways. Home for turkey preparations perhaps, or home to nurse hangovers from festivities the night before! Once again, thanks to everyone who made it a fantastic morning.
As organizers, I think we need to stop underestimating the attraction of these events. There is certainly some pent up demand for casual classic car runs! We’ll plan to do this more often next year. For all the new acquaintances we met today, please be sure to sign up for the mailing list for our occasional newsletter.
October 12, 2009 – Sea to Sky Classics Run
With winter approaching, we’re itching to hit the road in our classics as many times as possible, so we’re organizing a quick Sea to Sky run and meet-up! We’re keeping it quick, local, and fun…here’s the details – we hope to see you soon!
What: A casual cruise and meet-up with fellow classic car owners of all marques and types to “give thanks” for another season of motoring fun! Drive the best part of the new Sea-to-Sky Highway on a quiet holiday morning, and enjoy the company of classic car nuts before you have to head off to the in-laws for thanksgiving dinner! We have planned it so that you can be back home by midday. Some of you might have done a Sea to Sky run recently with your various car clubs, but its always fun to mix all the marques together and meet new people. And really, who can say no to the beautiful views and winding turns past ocean and mountains – especially on a holiday! Rain or Shine.
When: Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, 9:30-11:00am
Where: Galileo Coffee, 173 Highway 99, Britannia Beach, BC
West Vancouver Gathering Location: If you’d like to convoy with others up to Britannia Beach, we will be gathering at the Park Royal Shopping Centre (White Spot Parking Lot) in West Vancouver. The group will be LEAVING this spot at 9am. [Google Map Link]
Squamish Gathering Location: For those coming from Whistler and Squamish who want to meet the others in West Vancouver first and make a drive of it, we will depart the Squamish McDonald’s parking lot at 8am. Otherwise, just plan to be at Galileo at 9:30ish!
